The nearest town of any size is Carhaix Plougeur which is about a ten minute drive away. We use Carhaix's facilities for most everyday needs.
In Carhaix you'll find large branches of several supermarket chains: Casino, Le Clerc and Intermarché are all represented. On the main street through town there's a large selection of independent shops. Be warned: LeClerc stays open for lunch, but almost all other shops and businesses close for anything up to two hours from midday onwards. Don't plan your shopping for lunchtime unless LeClerc is where you intend to go.
If you run out of something essential on a Sunday, you'll need to either hope that Trébrivan's boulangerie has it or else it's a trip to Huelgoat, about thirty minutes' drive for the only Sunday opening supermarket that we've found so far. It's only Sunday mornings, though. The Intermarché there also has a small section devoted to such British addictions as Marmite if you can't live without something and can't find it in Carhaix.
In the unlikely event that the bottled gas runs out at Le Bout de Sac (it's only used for the hob and a spare is kept under the worktop), fresh supplies can be obtained from Steve and Sue at Bar la Forge; they'll let us know and we'll sort out the cost.
Local Market Days:
All open air markets start early and are generally all-but over by midday / one o'clock.
There is a market within a fairly easy drive every day of the week at the following locations:
Monday: Gourin; Tuesday: Rostrenon; Wednesday: Callac; Thursday: Lannion, Huelgoat; Friday: Guingamp; Saturday: Guingamp (again), Carhaix and Morlaix; Sunday: Bon Repos (artisan's market, small and picturesque).
